PROPERTIES OF SILICON METAL:

Most metallurgical Silicon Metal is used as an alloying agent in the aluminium industry due to its ability to increase the strength of aluminium.Demand from the aluminium industry has grown steadily in recent years due to increased usage of aluminium in structural engineering,aircraft manufacture and the automotive industry.

 

APPLICATIONS OF SILICON METAL:

 

There are two main applications for silicon metal:

 

As an alloying element for aluminium alloys for casting and extrusions;

 

As the basic raw material for silicones produced by the chemical industry. 

 

The remaining part of consumption is shared between altra-high-purity electronic applications and,more recently,solar applications.

 

The other uses remainmarginal.

 

 

 

PROCESS OF SILICON METAL:

All silicon metal produced has its origin in quartz(SIO2).Quartz is converted (reduced) to silicon (sio2)in a high temperature melting process using carbon and large amounts of energy. 

 

 

To creat the qualities that are good enough for solar silicon,the silicon must be very clean,99.9999%.There are no quartz products that can be purified above 99.999% sio2,therefore the silicon metal has to go through successive purification processes even if it is made of the purest quartz available.

  

Silicon metal is normally made through a metallurgical process starting with lump quartz of medium to low purity together with carbon.This metallurgical silicon is upgraded though several cleaning processes into higher qualities like solar grade and semiconductor grade.

It is certified with ISO9001. It currently has 326 employees.  Many workers are specially trained in metallurgical engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering, analytical chemistry, or business management.

In Dec 2010, Factory has successfully completed REACH (Registration, Evaluation,Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals, Regulation of EC). As more than half production is exported, the REACH registration is expected to help us expand our presence in the European markets.
